Ally Dawson (Laura Marano ) , a shy songwriter , working at Sonic Boom, a music store by her father, Lester ( Andy Milder ) belongs in the Mall of Miami. Austin Moon ( Ross Lynch ) , an aspiring singer , Ally interrupts while in their rehearsal room , singing a rough cut of " Double Take " . Unbeknownst to Ally , Austin and his best friend Dez ( Calum Worthy ) mistakenly think the song Austin wrote it yourself, create a video and post it on the Internet , after which it and Austin to a local sensation. After performing the song on " The Helen Show," Helen ( Mim Drew ) suggests that Austin return and perform another original song . Austin is not good at songwriting, and the only solution he can think of is , pleading Ally to write another song for him. Ally initially denies in anger , but later agrees to help him. The two bond while working on her next song "Break Down the Walls" and Austin asks Ally to be there when he performs . When the pianist is ill , but Ally has to fill in. That was all part of the Austin plan to help them overcome stage fright Ally , but it only ends in disaster . But Austin and Ally are partners , along with December as a video director and Ally's best friend , Trish ( Raini Rodriguez) as Austin's manager.
